I want to talk to you about how you can trust God loves you even in difficult times.

Every once in a while you go through a season that causes you to grow spiritually, mentally or emotionally.

Maybe it’s because of decisions you made. Maybe it’s because of a decision someone else made. Maybe you are in one of those seasons right now.

In those times it can cause you to doubt God’s love for you.

Sometimes those seasons are very private … you don’t share much about what you are going through nor do you put your very complicated life or circumstances on the church prayer chain.

It can be just you and God … sorting through the mess and shedding tears along the way.

Other times your circumstance is very public but the struggle isn’t anything anyone can fully understand … they may even reject you.

And when you put your head on the pillow at night, it’s just you and God fighting the battle in your mind. The battle that wants to take you out. To destroy any belief that God is for you.

I find in those times I really need to know that God loves me. When things aren’t working out the way I want or hope … I need to know He hasn’t abandoned me and will make all of these things work together for good.

Where do you go to find hope that God loves you?

I have a great resource I’ll share with you at the end of this video … so be sure to stay until the end. But first I want to share how God was working out this truth in my heart.

Generally reading something in the Old Testament isn’t my “go to” scripture for encouragement!

The last month I’ve been reading through Jeremiah. I have stopped several times and asked God to show me what He wanted me to learn … and HOW He wanted me to SEE things from His perspective.

By the time I got to chapter 29 I was in great need of some uplifting stories!  Because, let’s be honest, up to that point … God’s people weren’t doing so well. And He was having the prophet Jeremiah deliver some tough news about consequences to their actions.

But then I got to the part of the story between Chapters 29-31. God speaks promises of restoration, and blessing over Israel and Judah. Their brokenness didn’t stop God from loving them.

If you look closely you can see how those promises are fulfilled in Jesus. These promises are for us too … whether you can relate more to Jeremiah or the rebellious broken people. God is a great multi-tasker.

God heard Jeremiah’s cries and gave him hope. God was giving his people hope even before they were aware that they needed it.

Here are some promises from God as seen in Jeremiah: Just receive from God as I speak these over you.

I know the plans I have for you – plans for wholeness and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

I will restore the fortunes of my people

I am with you to save you

I will restore health to you

I will multiply you

I will make you honored

I will build you

I will turn their mourning into joy

I will comfort them and give them gladness for sorrow

I will satisfy the weary soul

I will have mercy on him

I will watch over them

While I was thinking through how committed God was to blessing those that were His … and loving them even when they were a mess. I got a book in the mail. It’s called 66 Ways God Loves You”  by Jennifer Rothschild.

Jennifer has written 13 books and Bible studies, including the bestsellers, Lessons I Learned in the Dark and Self-Talk, Soul-Talk. She has appeared on Good Morning AmericaDr. PhilLife Today, and spoken for Women of Faith. She is the founder of the Fresh Grounded Faith conferences and womensministry.net. What’s even more amazing is that she lost her sight at age 15 and yet regularly travels and speaks around the country, sharing her story and all God has done in her life.

I was touched by Jennifer’s testimony that although she lost her sight at 15 she found continued hope in God and is secure of His love. It may be because of her circumstances that she can really SEE how God loves people.

When we press through our own disappointments, failures or brokenness and cry out to God we can be a testimony for others to know God.

Like Jeremiah. Like Jennifer.

In her new book66 Ways God Loves You”, Jennifer highlights a way God showed His love for His people (and you) through each book of the Bible – yes, even the books that seem to focus on repentance and the pending destruction!

So of course I immediately flipped to her thoughts on Jeremiah. Her insight into the book of Jeremiah?

God sees my tears and gives me hope.

Hope in the midst of tears. Hope in the middle of bad circumstances.

Let me read you this portion of her book. (in video only)

Don’t you just love the way she highlights the tenderness of God, the permission to cry out to Him? And the way God shows us his promises through this Old Testament story and how it reflects the hope we have in Jesus?

Each chapter of her book – in all 66 of them – she shares one encouraging truth after another. Jennifer finds a nugget of gold in each book of the Bible and helps you see how God sees. How He loves you with an everlasting love. I don’t know about you… but I need those reminders every day.

Here are some other ways Jennifer shares how God loves you:

In Genesis He fashions you with His hands.

In Nahum he comforts you.

In Hebrews He invites you to come before His throne.

In Peter He gives you victory over suffering.

I included her full list of chapters at the end of my blog so you can see the “66 Ways God Loves YOU!”

As Jennifer has so wisely and beautifully written, each book of the Bible shows us a reflection of God’s love through Jesus. Her book is easy to read but so packed with truth to meditate on. If you’ve had trouble seeing God’s goodness and love in the Bible, her book will definitely help guide you or someone you know.
